New Zealand’s newest trades campus was officially blessed by the Kaumatua of Manawhenua last Thursday, during a special dawn ceremony.
Around 35 people attended the blessing, including several Kaumatua, local community members, and senior management from Cornerstone Education and the Aspire2 Group.

The event was the culmination of months of hard toil by the Aspire2 Trades team, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the state-of- the-art training facility was ready to welcome students for the first time on August 21.

“The blessing was an important milestone in the Aspire2 Trades journey, marking the beginning of a new era for trade training in South Auckland,” said Head of School Michael Lortan.

Those attending the dawn ceremony were called onto the site at 6am. The procession started at the front gate of the Ash Road Wiri campus, and slowly moved through the entire 4000 square metre facility including offices, classrooms and training areas. A special plaque was unveiled and speeches were made before the group shared a welcome breakfast.

“It was a very proud day for us and we are extremely excited about the great opportunities this new facility will provide to the South Auckland community.”
